If we remember to stop and be reminded, the blessings that this season stands for bring us back to center. In case you’re distracted by stress and busy-ness, I pray that above all you know the presence of Christ in your life.
Toward the blessings and the promise,

The sun is shining
as it does
As though it has nothing
better to do
Which is most likely
the case anyway
Except to warm the
bristling body
of the bird I do not recognize
Which is shouting exuberantly
in the bare tree branches
Singing I dare say
on this brilliantly cold day
For his small feathery life

All those birds who screech and sing
Do their little bird ears ring?
While they shelter from the storm
Do they feel so oddly warm?
Do they hear our strange confessions
And despair at our obsessions-
Those who roost up there for hours-
All those birds in our cell towers?

I was driving and when I stepped on the brakes I heard a high pitch sound. It happened again then, and I wondered what's going on with the brakes. I've never heard that kind of sound come from them before. Then I clearly heard a chirp, and realized it was a bird that by chance, sounded when I stepped on the brakes 2 times in a row. Whew. I was relieved.
