It’s the start of the holiday season, more or less, with Thanksgiving. Our trees (yes, two) have been up for a couple weeks, and more decorations will be going up this weekend. It’s not so much about obsession with the holiday for us, we just need the light in December. Since this season tends to be cyclical around depression for both of us, we do what we can to remember not to not go there.
[See this post from last year for notes about light in the winter season. And pumpkin bread, since it’s right there. Because it’s time again.]
Some promises I’m thankful for this season: (Go ahead, look ‘em up!)
This too shall pass. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)
His mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
It is God who is at work in me to want to and to do it for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)
We’ll make it OK, because God. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Someday it will either all finally make sense or just not matter. (Colossians 3:1-4)
It will all be right-sided again. (Revelation 5:12-14)
Whatever cheer and distress the holidays bring you, cling to the promises!
I pray you a season of less frustration, more tangible awareness of the goodness of God all around, and a clear vision of His work in your life.
Toward the promise,
Lana
Through the Bible in a Year Reading Plan and Challenge
Check in time! Are you hanging in there with the Challenge? Think how good this will feel when you can raise your hand when someone asks if you’ve read your Bible all the way through. Let me know if you’re still with us.
And if you’re behind—like me—remember you can keep reading once the calendar turns over. I’ll be coming into port quite late. I got a copy of the ESV to see if I like it. So I’m been reading now instead of listening, straight through instead of the back and forth Old to New. Plowing through Isaiah, then I’m going to conquer all the short New Testament epistles. Then probably back to the short Old Testament prophets. It seems to be going quicker. Stay tuned and I’ll let you know when I finish!
