Thank you so much for your lovely welcome back! There were emails and calls and Woohoo!s from all quarters--warmed my fuzzy little heart right up!
A short diversion to the book a friend published a couple years ago. Roger is one of a couple colleagues I had to let down when things went sideways, but he persevered and found good resources to finish his book.
The Father's Trust Navigating Life’s Journey by Roger Weitlich
Roger has collected many stories of his life, tracing from boyhood to retirement. As our neighbor and business colleague and the man in the pew next to us, he candidly shares the stories of his family, career, church leadership, health, great blessings, hard times, plans gone awry, waiting on God, opportunities to obey God or do his own thing. The recurring theme throughout is
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him
And He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Roger’s memoirs are honest and highly readable, candid encouragement for those of us who are trying to be faithful. Here’s the Amazon link, or you can contact Roger about his book here.
Otherwise, it’s been a really hard month. I won’t ding you with the dreadful details, but coming home and curling up under a fuzzy blanket in the dark has been a deeply attractive past-time. So, no witty and thought-provoking wander from my heart for this month.
Instead, I’ll list a few of the things that have sustained me.
My team at the company have shouldered what they could of the hits that have kept coming--buried as they are with their own stuff. Most of these bucks are stopping at my desk, but I haven’t been thrown to the wolves. I’m daily grateful for Kevin and Aaron.
These last awful cold and snowy weeks, the guys drove me to and from work and my neighbor kept the walks cleared. I’m spoiled and I know it.
This time of year, the sunrise gleams in my window through my sheers and green plants while I drink coffee and talk to God about things. I can’t explain to you how this centers my soul. The sun keeps coming up. That’s how I know God’s still in charge of what’s going on.
Books. Such good books. Poetry. The church fathers. History. And Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. Robert Crais knows how to spin a tale, now.
Lots of little things going right.
This year has been a whole different kind of hard and God’s been with me in a whole different kind of presence. I hope to find the words to explain some of this in the future. In the meantime, I got another one out to you. Not what I really wanted, but I did it. Proud of myself.
Little things going right.
I’ve been on a chicken kick lately, and enjoying my papercraft again. My sister keeps supplying me with fabulous printed paper and things like washi tape to play with. These are all 3-4 inches in size. I’m not sure why they’re all facing west.
Here’s the link to the comeback issue Surprise!
Thanks for reading Toward the Promise! It shows up kind of irregularly just now, but you can get the next one straight in your email inbox! (Easy to unsubscribe and no one else ever access your contact information!)
I like your pictures. All those pieces that come together and are recognizable.
