At the close of Shiva, the mourners take a walk to signify moving forward. The following 30 days are a period of Sheloshim, during which the mourner re-engages in life at a slower pace, continuing to reflect on the loss and adjusting to the reality of new empty spaces and severed connection.
Lana and John, I'm so sorry for the loss of your 2 dear lifetime friends.... that is very sad.
Yes, good advice about slowing down to deal with the emotions that life brings... more important than a to do list. I reread several times about the "dumbfounding discovery... dead thing on the kitchen table". I think you are speaking figuratively, right? Quite a metaphor. :-)
Julie, thank you for your support. Both passings were anticipated, but I've learned that expecting it never makes it less painful. We watched one funeral online this morning--couldn't even be with the family because of COVID exposure. We're grateful for the ability to participate this way.
And yes, that's only a metaphor. An actual dead thing would have bothered me a lot less! :D
Oh yes, painful even when expected. So I reread your metaphor again and understood. You are quite a creative writer... I guess that's why you work as an author and editor. :-)
